The management of EMC’s Israel Center of Excellence is comprised of a group of industry veterans with years of experience in international corporations, venture capital funds and the Israeli military. Dr. Orna Berry
Corporate Vice President Growth and Innovation EMC Centers of Excellence EMEA and the US
Dr. Berry is a recognized entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience in the Israeli science, technology and venture capital industries. She is known for her efforts to promote excellence, entrepreneurship and innovation in Israeli society. Dr. Berry has held a wide range of key positions with significant social and public impact throughout her career – she was a founding partner of Ornet Data Communications Ltd. She held the position of Chief Scientist of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in the Israeli government, served as the Chairperson of the Israeli Venture Capital Funds Association (IVA) and was previously a Venture Partner at Gemini Israel Funds. Dr. Berry has also held a number of positions related to consulting and management of scientific research at Fibronics, IBM , Intel and UNISYS. Dr. Berry also served as a Director at PrimeSense, which was recently acquired by Apple. Currently Dr. Berry serves as the Corporate Vice President Growth and Innovation EMC Centers of Excellence EMEA (Israel, Ireland, Russia and Egypt) and the US (Uta and South Carolina), Chairperson of the Israel-Australia Chamber of Commerce (IACC), representative on IAESI's Board of Directors and as the chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Academic College Tel Aviv-Jaffa.
Most recently, she was the recipient of the "Yakirat Ha'Negev" award from Ben Gurion University, which recognized her achievements and excellence in the technology industry, as well as her successful entrepreneurship ventures and profound involvement in establishing an EMC R&D branch in the Negev region.
Vice President, Global New Business Development
Gil heads EMC Global New Business Development activities in Israel and Russia, and also supports similar efforts in China. In Israel, Gil leads EMC’s relationship with local venture capitals funds, investment banks, private investors, entrepreneurs, universities and startups. He represents EMC externally with partners, the Israeli government, and at various technology forums, and develops the plans and oversees execution of EMC's strategic investments. Furthermore, Gil represents EMC on the board of its Israeli investment portfolio companies. He joined EMC in 2002 at the company's headquarters in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, and relocated back to Israel in 2007. Previously, he served in a range of engineering positions at Cisco and Intel. He holds an MBA from Boston University and a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the Technion.
Yael Villa, Ph.D.
General Manager and CTO, EMC Israel CoE
With nearly 30 years of experience in statistical consulting and research, Villa joined RSA Israel in 2007 as CTO of RSA Israel and to lead the fraud-oriented Risk Analytics Team. In 2012, she took on the additional responsibility of RSA Israel Site Leader.
Prior to joining EMC, Villa served as VP of Research at Celebros, as well as VP of Research at Textology. Her research has been published in countless academic journals and she has held research positions in the Tel Aviv University, School of Mathematics and continues to serve as a Senior Lecturer at the Academic College of Tel Aviv-Yaffo.
In 2011, Yael was recognized as a Distinguished Engineer and joined the highly respected community of EMC Distinguished Engineers.
Yael holds Ph.D. in Mathematics and Statistics from Tel Aviv University.
VP Fraud Products, RSA and RSA Israel Site Leader
Gil is a professional executive with over 30 years of engineering experience in leading large global engineering organizations, setting strategies, and driving organizational operations. Since joining EMC in 1998 to manage the Symmetrix quality-assurance organization, Shapira has held a range of positions in the engineering unit, where he contributed to the quality and interoperability of EMC products. Prior to joining EMC, Shapira held different positions in the Israeli high-tech industry, including managing an IT group and leading various R&D organizations that develop digital transmission equipment and access systems, integrate and adopt telephone switches to different market needs, and develop software applications supporting billing and complementary control functions. Gil holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Technion.
VP & GM of ScaleIO / ASD
Boaz Palgi serves as VP & GM of ScaleIO / ASD at EMC. Previously, Boaz was the Founder & CEO of ScaleIO, which EMC acquired in 2013. Before that, Boaz held key roles at several data storage and enterprise software companies, including Topio (acquired by NetApp), NetApp, and Storwize (acquired by IBM). Boaz started programming (Pascal, Z80 Assembler on CP/M) at the age of 11. He holds a BA from Nyenrode University (the Netherlands) and Queen's University (Canada) and an MBA from INSEAD (France). Boaz served as a paratrooper and medic in the IDF. He has lived and worked in several countries in North America and Europe.
Senior Director, RecoverPoint & Data Mobility BU Israel Site Leader
Meir is a seasoned Software Engineering manager, with more than 20 years of professional experience. Meir’s career spans across a wide range of product domains including Statistical analysis, Image & Video Processing, e-Commerce, SaaS, and IT infrastructures. Meir joined EMC in 2007 to manage Engineering for RecoverPoint. At the present Meir heads the RecoverPoint product, and serves as the Data Mobility Business Unit (DMBU) Israel site leader. Prior to joining EMC, Meir served as VP R&D at RichFX, a New-York based, Israeli startup company that delivered innovative Software-as-a-Service visualization solutions to e-Retailers. Prior to that Meir held various engineering positions at WebGlide / RichFX, and led a branch at an elite IDF technology unit. Meir holds a B.Sc. and MA in Computer Science from the Technion, Haifa.
Anat Eyal, Ph.D.
Director of Engineering, Flash Business Unit
Anat is a seasoned R&D manager with over 20 years of experience delivering enterprise-level products. She has experience with databases, storage, file systems, security and access, both from the technology side and the academic side. Anat joined EMC in April 2011 to manage the engineering efforts of the Flash Business Unit. Prior to joining EMC, Anat managed the development of the Win7 Direct Access Gateway solution at Microsoft. Before that, she held various R&D positions including Director of Core Technology at Exanet and was Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Pennsylvania. Anat holds an M.Sc. in Management Sciences and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Tel Aviv University.
Maya Hofman Levy
Site Leader, EMC/RSA Beer Sheva
Maya has more than 18 years of professional experience in Human Resources, Management & Operations roles in Hi-Tech & Bio-Tech industry, with senior executive management experience. Maya joined EMC in May 2011 to build and manage the HR of the new Center of Excellence site in Beer Sheva taking leading part in defining the vision, strategy and business growth for the site and executing accordingly, collaborating and building relations with external Negev and southern eco-system partners. Prior to joining EMC, Maya worked at Atlantium Technologies where she served as the Director of Human Resources responsible for all HR activities and member of the executive team , before that as CEO & consultant at See++, providing HR outsourcing services for high-tech companies at all stages. In addition, Maya served in various HR & Operation Managerial roles in Compugen Ltd, Pilat & IDF.
Maya holds a BA in Social Sciences from the Open University.
Director of Finance, Center of Excellence
Hila has more than 17 years of professional experience primarily in the high-tech and software industries, and has been working at EMC for over six years. Prior to her current position as Director of Finance, she served as the controller of the EMC Israel “light CoE” (before RSA joined the Israeli CoE). She also held of the position of Director of Finance of nLayers Ltd., a startup acquired by EMC in 2006, and was significantly involved in of the acquisition process. In the past, Hila served as the controller at Interwise Ltd., where she managed the financial and operational aspects of its subsidiaries worldwide, and also held managerial positions at PWC. Hila holds an MBA in Finance and International Management, a postgraduate diploma in Advanced Accounting and Taxation Studies, and a BA in Accounting and Economics, all from Tel Aviv University. She has been an Israeli Certified Public Accountant since 1997.
Director of Operations, Center of Excellence
Shlomi has over 15 years of experience in managing and running business operations for companies in the high-tech sector. Prior to joining EMC’s Israel Center of Excellence, Shlomi served as the Chief Operating Officer at SAP for four years. In this capacity, Shlomi was responsible for the operations, program and quality management of the unit overseeing on-demand solutions for global business. Prior to that, Shlomi held various positions at Teledata Networks over a period of nine years, the last being Vice President of Operations, where he led supply chain management, production, project management & IT for the company. Shlomi holds a B.Sc. in Industrial and Management Engineering from the Technion and an MBA from Bar-Ilan University.
Israel Director of Human Resources
Ayelet brings years of experience in managing human resources at global corporations to the EMC Israel Center of Excellence. Prior to joining EMC, Ayelet worked at Comverse for eight years, where she served as the VP of Global Human Resources responsible for HR regional teams in Israel, Europe & APAC, and before that as Associate Vice President and also Senior HR Business Partner. Prior to Comverse, Ayelet served as the HR Director at Arthur Andersen Israel, one of the world’s ‘big five’ accounting firms. Ayelet holds an MA in Labor Studies (HR Management and Organizational Consulting) from Tel Aviv University, and a BA in Behavioral Sciences from Bar-Ilan University.
